Meet Deon!
Deon Harrison, Management Trainee, has worked at Quad City Bank & Trust for 5 months, while pursuing his education at St. Ambrose University. Read more about his thoughts on the company culture and what he loves to do in the Quad Cities.
What is the best or your favorite part about working at QCBT?
I really enjoy the welcoming environment displayed at this bank through its employees and many of our clients.
What does QCBT mean to you?
To me, QCBT embodies a bank that is so community and family based that it feels like you have a relationship with its employees and therefore the bank itself. When clients come into the bank, it’s almost like they catch up with an old friend and have a great experience here every time they come in. We are a bank that puts people first and understands the profit we make isn’t the most important part of our days but rather the relationships we build and maintain matters significantly more. Through our volunteering and generous sponsorship to many non-profit organizations, it is clear that despite the welcoming and loving environment QCBT provides to its employees and clients, we also implement strategies and placeholders to be a successful business while taking great care of our customers.
How would you describe the company culture?
The culture we provide allows others to feel like they and their problems are important to us. Despite just our efforts to create this culture among our clients, we also see it being implemented internally through D.E.I luncheons and surveys to make sure everyone is being treated fair. I’ve also been very attentive to how the leadership team responds to and encourages feedback to better the bank and the experience it’s employees have. Amongst employees as a whole regardless of department, the employees here at QCBT have elevated their initial respectful welcoming culture to new employees into a stronger solid and meaningful relationship through day to day interactions and parties like the “retail appreciation dinner”, “loan celebration golf party “, and more things our amazing sparks committee has planned to increase employee experience.
What is one thing people may not know about your job, the company, etc.?
I don’t think many people are aware that my position as a management trainee and someone who has the privilege to see multiple departments has gained a great amount of understanding and knowledge based benefits not only through bank related affairs but in my personal life as well.
What are some goals you have in life / work / etc.?
The biggest goal I have in life is to serve Jesus through spreading his word and making the world a better place for those who live in it and could benefit from just one more word of encouragement to turn their day around. As for work, one of my goals is to understand the overall picture of how a bank operates as well as some key details that allow this to happen.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy many things that have anything to do with music including playing piano and writing my own songs.
I also love being apart of something bigger than myself to implement change like the ASWAS conference and strategic initiatives my school holds that effects current and future students.
Other than these things, I enjoy watching movies, playing video games and planning events.
What is one thing you love to do in the Quad Cities?
I love going for drives at night to see the bridge lit up and walking along the river for a peaceful end to the day. I also love walking the trails here to experience the beautiful sites the QC has to offer.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
A fun fact about me is I am the youngest of 8 children and the only one who 1, isn’t very in to sports and 2, overly enjoys music.
If you could go to any vacation destination where would it be and why?
I would go to Italy because it looks beautiful and I love their style of living and the culture they have there.
If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?
I would want the power to create anything my mind could conjure. I feel like this ability could help so many people across the world, whether that’s creating food, a home, land, clothes and the list goes on. I understand the desires of men are limitless, however, if I could provide enough supplies, food and resources to increase the overall value of human life, I would do it in a heart beat.
Do you have a favorite quote?
My favorite quote is, “The human mind is powerful, use it justly, give it a purpose and it will never fail.”
What is the best advice you've received?
Take time for yourself, slow down and enjoy life.
