- Special Assets/Credit Administration
Name of the organization for which you volunteered
- YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley
What does this organization do?
- The YMCA's mission focuses on three areas: 1) Youth Development - Nurturing the potential of every child and teen, 2) Healthy Living - Improving the community's health and well-being, and 3) Social Responsibility - Giving back and providing support to everyone in the community.
What inspired you to choose this organization?
- I was inspired to volunteer with YMCA after seeing, first-hand, the impact they have made directly and indirectly through their outreach programs. We often don't realize the struggles that face the children and teens in the Quad Cities. With the YMCA's help, I have seen teens and young adults turn their lives from crime and violence to being a positive contributor to the community. Many of these kids/young adults don't know any other way until the mentors from the YMCA step in to help guide them onto the right path.
What kind of volunteer work do you do with this organization?
- I am a member of the Bettendorf YMCA Advisory Board which focuses on fundraising and the overall wellbeing of the Bettendorf YMCA Branch. I am also a member of the Executive Board Finance Committee that monitors the YMCA's budget on a monthly basis and supports management during the budget process. Lastly, I am an Officer (Secretary) of the newly formed YMCA Community Foundation Board, a.k.a. the Executive Board Investment Committee which monitors any surplus the YMCA has, as well as their investments.
