Name of the organization for which you volunteered?
- Davenport Central Marching Blue Devils
What does this organization do?
- The Marching Blue Devils (MBD) are a volunteer co-curricular component of the Davenport Central Band program. The MBD are open to interested students in 8th - 12th grade and include woodwind and brass instruments, percussion, and color guard. Annually, the MBD perform at all home Davenport Central football games, participate in numerous parades, and compete in field competitions throughout the Midwest. Primary rehearsal and performances occur during the summer and fall, outside of the regularly scheduled school day. The Marching Blue Devils have a long tradition of excellence and take pride in representing their school and the Davenport community, including the 2023 New Year's Day Parade in London, England and St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland in March 2027.
What inspired you to choose this organization?
- I volunteer for the Marching Blue Devils because it allows me the opportunity to be involved with an organization that all three of my kids have participated in. What started out as one MBD, soon became three, then two due to graduation, and now back to one due to another graduation. Volunteering with this group helps me stay connected to my kiddos and seeing their growth, discipline, and passion for this band program is beyond rewarding. It takes a village in order for any marching band program to operate successfully, and I'm proud to be a part of the MBD community and the positive experiences my kids and their friends have shared.
What kind of volunteer work do you do with this organization?
- My ‘official’ title is Lead Chaperone, which essentially means Chaos Coordinator and the liaison between other parent chaperones and the directors.
