Name: Kristie Roberts
Title: Application Security Administrator Officer
How many years have you been with the company? 20
What did you do during your sabbatical? We (Kristie and Art- Kristie's now husband) traveled to the Smokey Mountains- trailered our Harley Tri-Glide. We rode every day on our Trike, enjoying God's beauty. We had several adventures- from riding trails and hiking to white water rafting and miniature golfing. During the second week, we traveled to Hurt, VA where we visited Art's Dad and Ma and shared some exciting news (see below- marriage proposal!). We took Art's Dad to Charlotte, NC, to experience the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which was on his life bucket list. What an awesome time! I also got to meet many of Art's family and friends for the first time during our travels. When we returned home, we spent time with friends and shared stories from our trip.
What was your biggest takeaway or most memorable moment during your sabbatical? Everything was great, the most memorable moment was when we were on top of Anakeesta Mountain in Gatlinburg, TN. Art got down on one knee and proposed! Kristie and Art were married July 12, 2025.
How did your sabbatical impact your personal or professional growth? My sabbatical opened my heart again and brought new family and friends into my life.
Did the sabbatical help you return to work feeling more refreshed and energized? Yes- I was refreshed, my mind was clear, and I felt reenergized. My teammates kept items up to date, so returning to work was easy and painless.
Is there any advice you would give to someone that is preparing for a sabbatical? Disconnect from work!! Don't check anything remotely!! This was the first time in all my years- including my first sabbatical- that I truly disconnected. I actually took a personal oath to not check anything from my computer or phone. I disconnected completely, and it felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders!!
Anything else you would like to share? The company provides these amazing opportunities to take a sabbatical- use them. They can ease personal, mental or work-related stress. I am proud to work for such a great establishment.
