What did you do during your sabbatical? I took my second sabbatical in June of 2024. I was able to take my wife, kids and mom to Disney World and enjoy a terrific trip with them. I also took a fishing trip to Minnesota with my dad, brothers and kids. In addition to that, I was able to spend some more time with my kids, coaching both of them in basketball.
What was your biggest takeaway or most memorable moment during your sabbatical? It was time to spend with my family. Getting to hang out with my kids and my parents (their grandparents) out of town on these trips are things I would not have been able to do stress free without the sabbatical.
How did your sabbatical impact your personal or professional growth? It helped me focus on what's important. I was also able to share stories with my clients, and they all thought it was amazing that the bank does this program.
Did the sabbatical help you return to work feeling more refreshed and energized? I did come back to work refreshed. I had a great team who helped keep things going without issue.
Is there any advice you would give to someone that is preparing for a sabbatical? Take it! It does take some planning and effort to get it on the calendar, block out the time, decide what you want to do and communicate with co-workers ahead of time. But definitely worth it.
