Local Students Step into Healthier Futures with Virtual Arconic Jr. Bix Sponsorship
Quad City Bank & Trust (QCBT) has launched its third annual partnership to bring the spirit of the Quad-City Times Bix 7 directly to local youth. Through a growing collaboration with the Bix 7 organizers and United Way’s United for Schools, QCBT is providing free Arconic Jr. Bix race registrations to all students, staff, and faculty members at Madison Elementary School.
Brand-New Gear for Fifth Graders
The excitement kicked off yesterday morning during a special assembly in the school auditorium, where every fifth-grader was presented with a free pair of high-quality running shoes.
Local specialty retailer Running Wild partnered with the initiative to professionally fit each child. This year, the store expanded the program by offering multiple color options, allowing the students to fully customize their new footwear.
The shoes were kept safe in classrooms overnight, ensuring they are pristine and ready for action at today's field day.
Bringing the Finish Line to the Schoolyard
The celebration culminates today as Madison Elementary’s field day transforms into an official, certified "Virtual Bix" race course.
Before hitting the starting line this morning, every student is receiving their official race bib to wear for the event. Running Wild is also supplying a giant inflatable arch to serve as the race gateway. A team of volunteers from QCBT and local United for Schools partners are lining the schoolyard perimeter to cheer the children across the finish line.
"We are thrilled at all the community support we are receiving here at Madison Elementary," said Brianne Bar, Madison Elementary School Principal. "Watching the joy on our students' faces as they lace up their shoes and race across the finish line is so exciting. These will be memories and healthy habits they will take with them as they go into summertime."
Inspiring the Next Generation of Runners
Organizers hope this schoolyard event serves as a springboard for lifelong fitness and participation in the broader community tradition.
"We can’t wait to see many of these kids and teachers this July at the starting line for the Arconic Jr. Bix, the Prairie Farms Quick Bix, or the full Quad-City Times Bix 7," said Michelle Juehring, Race Director for the Quad-City Times Bix 7.
For QCBT, the sponsorship represents a core pillar of their local corporate philosophy.
"I believe we are the place for promise and prosperity in the Quad Cities region," said Laura "Divot" Ekizian, President & CEO of QCBT. "It is important to us to really demonstrate our commitment to the community, not just talk about it. Knowing so many of our employees are taking time to volunteer on site for the field day festivities and the impact it has perfectly demonstrates that."
The official 52nd annual running of the Quad-City Times Bix 7 is scheduled for Saturday, July 25th, at 8:00 AM in downtown Davenport.
